A copper worm gear (also called a bronze worm wheel) transmits motion and torque through sliding contact with a hardened steel worm. In mining and heavy equipment, these gears appear in winches, slewing drives, feeders, and positioning mechanisms, where steady load capacity and resistance to sliding wear matter more than high-speed performance. Because the worm and wheel run in continuous mesh, the bronze alloy, casting soundness, and tooth accuracy all influence how the pair performs in service.
Design & materials
Bronze worm wheels are usually specified in tin bronze or aluminium bronze depending on load and lubrication. Tin bronzes such as C93200 (SAE 660) and C90700 offer good machinability and conformability for moderate loads, while C95400 aluminium bronze provides higher strength and impact resistance for heavier duty. The gear is normally paired with a hardened steel worm, so the bronze should be selected to work with that counterface rather than in isolation. We cast to your drawing or reverse-engineer from a worn sample, matching the original alloy where the specification is known.

Manufacturing & inspection
We offer centrifugal casting, sand casting, and metal mold casting, then machine the gear in-house to your drawing, including bore, keyway, and tooth profile as required. Centrifugal casting generally produces denser material than sand casting, which can help where pressure tightness and wear resistance are priorities.
