A spherical seat liner (also called a spherical bearing liner or spherical seat) sits between the main shaft and the crusher frame, carrying the vertical load while allowing the shaft to tilt slightly during crushing. It belongs to the sliding bearing family: the shaft rotates against the liner under a lubricated film, so the two surfaces are separated by oil rather than running in direct metal-to-metal contact. In cone and gyratory crushers this arrangement keeps the machine steady, quiet and tolerant of the heavy, uneven loads that come with hard rock.

Design and materials

Spherical seat liners are cast as a matched pair with the spherical surface that mates to the shaft seat, then machined so the radius and contact pattern suit the crusher model. Common choices include C93200 (SAE 660) tin bronze for general service, C93700 where dirt or grit is present, and C95400 aluminum bronze where impact and abrasion are heavier. The alloy is selected against load, speed, lubrication and the material being crushed rather than by a single "most wear-resistant" grade.

  • Spherical radius machined to match the shaft seat
  • Oil grooves and lubrication passages formed to drawing
  • Tin bronze and aluminum bronze options
  • Cast and machined as one part, no assembly joints

Typical applications

These liners are used in cone and gyratory crushers, and in other heavy equipment where a shaft must be supported while allowing a small amount of self-aligning movement. Related parts in the same assembly include socket liners and eccentric bushings, which together form the crusher's bronze bearing set. Similar sliding-bearing components are used in mining and quarrying equipment such as crushers, mills and screens.

Manufacturing and inspection

We cast spherical seat liners by centrifugal, sand or metal mold casting depending on size and quantity, then machine them in-house to the customer's drawing. Each heat is checked by spectrometer for composition, and hardness is tested before shipment. We also work from worn samples, reverse engineering the original geometry and matching the original alloy where a drawing is not available.
