Bronze bushings are among the most heavily loaded wear parts in mining and heavy equipment. They carry shaft loads, absorb shock and reduce friction between moving surfaces, which helps limit vibration, noise and premature wear on the surrounding components. Because they are usually the part that wears first, they are also the part that decides how long a machine can stay in service between rebuilds.

Design & materials

A bronze bushing only performs as intended when the alloy, wall thickness, clearance and lubrication path suit the actual duty. We cast and machine bushings in a range of standard grades, and can match an original alloy when a drawing or sample is supplied.

  • C93200 (SAE 660) tin bronze for general medium-load bearings
  • C93700 high-lead tin bronze for dirty or poorly lubricated conditions
  • C95400 and C95800 aluminum bronze for high load and impact
  • C86300 manganese bronze for high-strength, slow-speed duty
  • Graphite-plugged versions for locations where re-greasing is difficult

Typical applications

Bronze bushings are used across crushing, conveying, pumping and processing equipment: crusher eccentric and frame positions, conveyor and bucket elevator shafts, pump and valve trunnions, mill and kiln support points, and pivot pins on construction machinery. In many mining applications the bushing is a sacrificial part, so matching the alloy to the load and lubrication condition matters more than simply copying the dimensions. See our bronze bushings range for the common configurations.

Manufacturing & inspection

We combine casting and machining in one workshop, so a bushing can be poured, heat-treated where required, machined and checked without being shipped between suppliers. Centrifugal casting is used where a denser structure is wanted, while sand casting and metal mold casting suit larger or more complex shapes. Each batch is checked for chemical composition by spectrometer and for hardness in our own laboratory, and dimensions are verified against the drawing before dispatch. More detail is available on our quality control page.
