CuSn5 is a tin bronze that has long been used for plain bearings and bushings in general engineering. It combines moderate strength with good running-in behaviour, so shafts and housings tend to bed in smoothly rather than seize. For maintenance teams working on crushers, conveyors and process equipment, a bushing cast and machined to the correct alloy and tolerance is often the difference between a planned change-out and an unplanned stoppage.

Design & materials

CuSn5 (5% tin bronze) is a standard tin bronze grade used for bushings, sleeves and wear rings. It offers good casting and machining characteristics, reasonable load capacity and useful corrosion resistance in atmospheric and fresh water conditions. Where loads are higher or shock is present, we may suggest a different grade from our materials range, such as C93200 (SAE 660) or C95400 aluminium bronze, depending on the duty.

  • Cast to drawing or reverse-engineered from a worn sample
  • Centrifugal, sand or metal mould casting selected to suit the part
  • In-house CNC machining to drawing tolerances
  • Spectrometer composition check and hardness testing before dispatch
  • Solid, flanged, grooved or graphite-plugged configurations available

Typical applications

CuSn5 bushings are commonly found in moderate-load, moderate-speed positions: pump bearing housings, conveyor idler and drive points, crusher auxiliary shafts, and general heavy equipment pivot and linkage pins. In many mining and quarrying applications the bushing is a consumable, so having a reliable replacement source matters more than the original brand name. We also produce related parts such as bronze bushings and bearing sleeves in a range of tin, lead and aluminium bronze grades.

Manufacturing & inspection

We handle casting and machining under one roof, which helps keep the alloy, the bore and the fit consistent from part to part. Centrifugal casting is used where a denser structure is beneficial; sand casting suits larger or more complex shapes. Every batch is checked for composition and hardness in our own laboratory, and dimensions are verified against the drawing before packing.
