A bronze bushing is a plain bearing that sits between a shaft and its housing, carrying radial load while reducing friction, wear and seizure in rotating or sliding motion. In machinery and heavy equipment, bushings are usually the part that wears first, so matching the alloy and the fit to the actual load, speed and lubrication condition matters more than the bushing's outward shape.

Design and materials

We cast and machine bushings to your drawing or to a worn sample, so bore, wall thickness, flange dimensions and lubrication grooves follow the original fit rather than a catalogue approximation. Alloy selection is based on the working condition:

  • C93200 (SAE 660) tin bronze — a general-purpose bearing alloy for medium loads and moderate speeds
  • C93700 high-lead tin bronze — often chosen where dirt, grit or marginal lubrication is present
  • C95400 aluminum bronze — used for higher strength and impact resistance
  • C86300 manganese bronze — for high-load, slow-speed positions
  • ZCuSn10P1 and other tin bronzes — matched to original equipment specifications

Solid, flanged, thrust and graphite-plugged self-lubricating versions are all available. See the full range on our bronze bushing category page.

Typical applications

Machinery bushings are found wherever a steel shaft turns inside a housing: gearboxes, pumps, valves, hydraulic cylinders, presses, conveyors and the high-load pivot points of mining and construction equipment. Because bronze resists galling against steel, it is commonly preferred over a steel sleeve in positions that cannot be lubricated often. More examples are listed under mining equipment components.

Manufacturing and inspection

We combine casting and machining in one workshop. Centrifugal casting is used for round bushings where a denser structure is wanted, while sand casting and metal mold casting suit larger or more complex shapes. Castings range from 20 mm to 6000 mm in diameter and 0.1 to 15000 kg, with in-house CNC machining to drawing. Each heat is checked by spectrometer for composition and by hardness testing before shipment.
