Bimetal Bronze Bushing for Heavy Equipment

Steel-backed bimetal bushings with a bronze alloy working layer, cast and machined to drawing for mining, crushing and heavy equipment repairs.

A bimetal bushing pairs a low-carbon steel backing with a bronze alloy working surface, so the part carries high radial and axial loads while the bronze layer provides the bearing and wear behaviour. For mining and heavy equipment, this combination is often chosen where a plain bronze bushing would need a larger section, or where the housing bore needs extra support. Xinxiang Haishan Machinery casts and machines bimetal bushings to drawing or to a worn sample, matching the original alloy where a replacement is required.

Design and materials

The steel backing is prepared and bonded to the bronze layer, then finished by turning and boring to the required fit. Bronze grades such as C93200 (SAE 660) tin bronze and C95400 aluminium bronze are commonly used for the working layer, depending on load and lubrication conditions. Where lubrication is intermittent, the bore can be machined with pockets and filled with graphite or PTFE to help maintain a transfer film.

  • Steel backing for structural support in the housing
  • Bronze working layer for load capacity and heat dissipation
  • Optional graphite or PTFE plugs for limited-lubrication running
  • Bore sizes and flange details produced to drawing

Typical applications

Bimetal bushings are used in crusher and mill components, construction machinery pivot points, hydraulic cylinder ends and conveyor drive assemblies. In these positions the load is high and lubrication may be periodic, so a steel-backed bushing can help hold the bore geometry. See our bronze bushings and aggregates and crushing pages for related parts and duty notes.

Manufacturing and inspection

We produce bimetal bushings by centrifugal casting, sand casting or metal mold casting, followed by in-house CNC machining. Each batch is checked with spectrometer composition analysis and hardness testing before dispatch. Reverse engineering from a worn sample is available when drawings are not on hand.
