From Drawing to Delivered Part: How a Custom Bronze Casting Is Made

A custom bronze part travels a well-defined path through a casting and machining plant. Knowing the steps — and the decisions at each one — helps you get a better part quote and a better part.

Step 1 — Drawing review

We check your drawing for the things that decide a successful casting: wall thickness, draft, machining allowances, sharp internal corners, and any geometry that fights the casting process. Where your drawing leaves room, our engineering recommends changes that save cost without compromising function.

Step 2 — Alloy selection

Choice of alloy is a service condition, not a paperwork exercise. Load, speed, lubrication and environment decide between C93200 general-purpose, C93700 dirty-service, C95400 high-strength. We confirm the alloy with you in the quotation; changing it later costs nothing at this stage and a great deal after casting.

Step 3 — Pattern making

For sand casting, the pattern is made from wood or resin — the negative-space master of your part, corrected for shrinkage and machining allowance. We keep patterns on file for repeat orders.

Step 4 — Casting

Centrifugal for bushing geometry, sand for complex parts, metal mold for medium-volume regular shapes. Composition is analyzed per melt in our lab before the pour is released.

Step 5 — Machining

The critical surfaces — bores, faces, fits, keyways, grooves — are machined to your drawing on CNC equipment in the same plant. Casting and machining under one roof is the single biggest reliability advantage for the buyer: the tolerance chain is owned by one party.

Step 6 — Inspection and packing

Final dimensions are checked against the drawing, material certificates are issued where ordered, and the parts are boxed for air or sea freight, with export documentation handled by our shipping desk.

Total time is typically 2–4 weeks depending on process and quantity — with lead time and Incoterm confirmed in writing on every quotation.
