Metal Mold (Die) Casting
Permanent metal molds give repeatable dimensions and a fine surface on medium production runs — lower cost per piece than sand on volume.
Metal mold casting (permanent mold casting) pours into a reusable steel or cast-iron mold instead of a sacrificial sand mold. The metal mold extracts heat faster, producing a fine grain, good dimensional repeatability and a smoother surface finish than sand casting.
For medium production runs of standard-shaped parts it is the economical middle path: better properties than sand casting, no sand inclusion risk, without the size limit of centrifugal process.
Typical metal-mold work includes gear blanks, flanges, gland bushings, pulley blanks and standard bearing shapes.
